I can’t tell you how many times I have starting to fix an old faucet and just went ahead and installed a new one. You can have a new look to your current bathroom by replacing the faucet.
Always check to see what type of faucet you have when you are going to replace it. If you are getting a new washbasin, you will want one that fits the spacing of the holes.
You can remove the faucet and check or measure between the center of the faucet handles. The standard center set faucets for a washbasin usually has a 4 inch space between the holes.
You can also replace a center set faucet with a single hole faucet if it’s base plate covers the side holes. You can replace one that the holes are separated 6-20 inches apart with the wide spread faucet.
If your washbasin has a pop up drain plug, you can also replace it to match your new faucet. Adding a pop up plug to your washbasin is a simple thing to do. You need the pop up mechanism to have a lift rod and also a T connector.
If you are replacing a tub or shower faucet I would use the same style. Make sure the replacement parts are make by the same manufacturer.
Before starting your project make sure that you get the old faucet fitting ready to take apart. Use some type of penetrating oil on all the threaded connections. This helps loosen the connections for taking apart.
Then cover all drains with a small cloth so you don’t drop and lose anything. If your working in a tub or shower use towels or old blanket to prevent scarring the finish. Clean your fitting in a bucket of equal parts vinegar and water. Add a Bathroom towel bar to improve the usability.
